RCC Animation Student Film Premieres at Indie Film Los Angeles

Riverside City College animation student Alona Davis celebrated the world premiere of her animated film, Monkey (in snow), on Sunday, Sept. 6, at Indie Film Los Angeles.

Davis, a student in RCC’s Department of Art & Art History, was selected to have Monkey (in snow) included in the festival lineup as an opening film. The selection provided Davis with an opportunity to share her work with an audience of filmmakers, artists and film enthusiasts in Los Angeles.

Following the premiere, Davis participated in a Q&A session, where she discussed her film and responded to questions from the audience. The film and Davis’ work received positive feedback throughout the event, highlighting the opportunities RCC students have to develop their creative work and share it with professional and artistic communities beyond the classroom.

The premiere represents an important milestone for Davis as she continues to develop her skills as an animator and filmmaker. Through RCC’s Department of Art & Art History, students have opportunities to explore animation, visual storytelling and other creative disciplines while building portfolios and producing work that can be shared with broader audiences.

“Having a student film selected as an opening film for a festival is an exciting accomplishment,” said Will Kim, RCC Animation Program Director, “Alona’s premiere is a wonderful example of the creativity and dedication our students bring to their work. We are proud to see her take her work beyond the classroom and into the larger film and animation community.”

For Davis, the Indie Film Los Angeles premiere offered an opportunity not only to showcase Monkey (in snow), but also to engage directly with an audience and experience the professional side of presenting original creative work.

Riverside City College’s Department of Art & Art History offers students opportunities to develop their artistic skills across a range of disciplines while preparing for continued study and careers in the creative industries.
