RCC's Student Journalists Earn Awards and Learn at JACC Conference Held at CSUN

A team of Viewpoints reporters represented RCC at the Journalism Association for Community Colleges SoCal Regional Conference held Oct. 11 at CSUN. Our college was one of 15 community colleges from Southern California in attendance.

 

Under the leadership of Editor-in-Chief Breanne Soto, editors Ethan Aguilera, Grace Esquibel, Victor Ledbetter Jr. and Marissa Perez proudly accepted awards for work completed in the 2024-2025 academic year, including recognition for editorials, page designs, illustrations and video reporting, among others.

 

Viewpoints also received the General Excellence Award for both online and newspaper categories — putting them back in the winners’ circle for the highest overall award achievable.

 

At the conference, the team gained practice writing on deadline, taking still photographs and picked up tips, techniques and career advice from professional journalists representing the LA Times, LAist/KPCC, iHeartRadio, the First Amendment Coalition, SoCal News and USA Today, among others.
