Transitioning Minds Hosts Seventh Free Legal Clinic, Empowering Students and Community

On October 11, 2025, Transitioning Minds (TM)—a student-led organization at Riverside City College (RCC)—hosted its seventh free legal clinic, continuing its mission to advance equity, empowerment, and second chances. Nearly 50 individuals from the campus and surrounding community received free legal consultations and record-clearing assistance.
This semester’s clinic was made possible through a powerful collaboration with RCC alumnus Jonathan Mendoza, a criminal and immigration attorney; RCC alum and paralegal Sebastian McGeeh; and Attorney Christine R. Martin. Together, they partnered with TM to provide critical legal support, helping participants take meaningful steps toward a fresh start.

Since its founding, Transitioning Minds has served nearly 300 community members through legal aid and expungements, free live scans, and other services that help individuals remove barriers to employment, education, and housing. The program’s success highlights the transformative power of student-driven initiatives at RCC, supported by dedicated advisors, alumni, and sponsors committed to creating opportunity for justice-impacted individuals.
Beyond direct service, the clinic also functioned as a leadership development experience for TM members. Students gained hands-on skills in event coordination, community outreach, and advocacy, while witnessing the real-world impact of their civic engagement.
Founded in 2018, Transitioning Minds advocates for formerly incarcerated and system-impacted students by promoting education, empowerment, and social justice. The organization’s mission is to bridge the gap between campus and community—creating pathways for restoration, leadership, and lifelong learning.
“As Transitioning Minds continues to grow, its members remain committed to transforming lives—one expungement at a time,” said the group’s leadership.
