Shari Yates, Ed.D., has served as Dean of Instruction, Career and Technical Education at Riverside City College since April 2020 and has held multiple roles at the college since January 1990. From August 2000 to April 2020, she led the School of Education and Teacher Preparation Department as Department Chair and earned the rank of Professor in 2016. Dr. Yates is an experienced strategic and operational leader for career and technical education programs, overseeing disciplines that include education, business administration, computer science, cybersecurity, marketing, management, entrepreneurship, paralegal studies, automotive technology, photography, applied digital media and printing, HVAC-R, cosmetology, and welding.
She has been a key champion of apprenticeship programs at RCC and has served in numerous shared governance leadership roles, including the Academic Senate, Curriculum Committee, Standards Committee, and Fa Association. Her doctoral research focused on the integration of academic programs into California Community College Child Development Centers. Dr. Yates is a committed community college advocate and a state and national leader supporting policy and legislation that advance Career and Technical Education, increase community college funding, and expand apprenticeship opportunities.
