Beyond Expectations: Centering Care and Connection in Our Daily Work

On Aug. 4, 2025, Riverside City College welcomed Pilar Huffman, Ed.D., director of professional development at Compton College and proud RCC alum, to lead an uplifting workshop exclusively for classified professionals. The 90-minute session, Beyond Expectations: Centering Care and Connection in Our Daily Work, drew about 25 attendees and inspired participants to reimagine service through a culturally responsive lens — one that prioritizes care, connection and compassion.
Through stories, reflection and interactive dialogue, Huffman encouraged attendees to bring authenticity and empathy to every interaction. She discussed how these practices can strengthen relationships, foster a sense of belonging and positively impact student success.
