MESA Students Attend National SHPE Conference

Six Riverside City College (RCC) students supported by the Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) program attended the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) National Conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from October 29 to November 1. Funding for student participation was provided by RCC MESA.
The SHPE National Conference is one of the largest gatherings of Hispanic professionals and students in STEM, focused on advancing academic and career success through mentorship, professional development, and networking opportunities. During the four-day conference, RCC students participated in a wide range of high-impact experiences designed to strengthen career readiness and professional connections.
Conference highlights included a large-scale career fair with more than 150 companies recruiting, interviewing, and hiring onsite, as well as workshops and sessions centered on SHPEtinas, inclusion, technology, and community college pathways. Students also benefited from the LeaderSHPE Wardrobe program, supported by Amazon and Bank of America, which provided free business and cocktail attire. Additional programming included University Village, offering graduate-focused sessions, a STEM Research Competition, and professional development tracks.
Through these experiences, RCC students engaged directly with industry professionals, STEM leaders, and recruiters, gaining valuable insight into career pathways while expanding their professional networks. Participation in the SHPE National Conference reflects RCC MESA’s continued commitment to supporting student success and increasing representation in STEM fields.
