Centers of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense
Cyber Security Center
Riverside City College is working to attain CAE2Y Accreditation.

The National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) jointly sponsor the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CD) Education (CAE-CDE), Two-Year Education (CAE-2Y) and Research (CAE-R) programs. The goal of these programs is to reduce vulnerability in our national information infrastructure by promoting higher education and research in CD and producing a growing number of professionals with CD expertise in various disciplines. Students attending CAE-CDE and CAE-R schools are eligible to apply for scholarships and grants through the Department of Defense Information Assurance Scholarship Program and the Federal Cyber Service Scholarship for Service Program. Designation as a Center does not carry a commitment for funding from NSA or DHS.

In line with the Center for Academic Excellence goals and to promote cyber defense skills and awareness, Riverside City College, with support from the Riverside Community College District, has established a Cyber Security Center and an Information Security and Cyber Defense educational pathway for students interested in pursuing a career in cyber defense.

The mission of the center is to provide access to technology and resources to assist our students in pursuit of a career in cyber defense as well as to provide for staff, faculty and the community at large, resources on information security awareness and online safety for both adults and children.

Our center is located in the Martin Luther King Building, room 205 and is equipped with 27 workstations with Internet access that is isolated from the production network and a variety of security tools including virtual machines where various operating systems can be loaded and studied from a CD perspective in a safe manner. A library of computing and security books are available for use on location.

A high tech online virtual environment is also made available for use by our students pursuing our “Information Security and Cyber Defense” pathway and certificate.
An Associate degree is forthcoming in the same.
