​​​​​​​​In line with the Center for ​Academic Excellence goals and to promote cyber defense skills and awareness, Riverside City College, with support from the Riverside Community College District, has established a Cyber Security Center and an Information Security and Cyber Defense educational pathway for students interested in ​​pursuing a career in cyber defense.​​​
​The mission of the center is to provide access to technology and resources to assist our students in pursuit of a career in cyber defense as well as to provide for staff, faculty and the community at large, resources on information security awareness and online safety for both adults and children.

​​Our center is located in the Martin Luther King Building, room 205 and is equipped with 27 workstations with Internet access that is isolated from the production network and a variety of security tools including virtual machines where various operating systems can be loaded and studied from a CD perspective in a safe manner. A ​​library of computing and security books are available for use on location. 

​​A high tech online virtual environment is made available for use by our students pursuing our “Information Security and Cyber Defense” pathway and certificate. An Associate degree is forthcoming in the same.

Topics Covered will include: Cisco Networking, Windows Operation System Security, Linux Security, Firewalls, Digital Forensic Intrusion Prevention Systems, Security Policies and Procedures, Web Security, Building a Secure Computer Network​​​​
The Cyber Security Center is also used by our Cyber Security Club for meetings, discussions and various cyber defense projects as well as practice space for competitions such as NCL and WRCCDC. The center is shared by our ACM club and program for coding practice and projects. ​​ ​​ ​
​RCC also hosts CyberPatriot summer camps for high school students to foster interest and learning in cyber defense.​ ​​ ​​

Scholarship Opportunities: Many organizations offer cybersecurity scholarships to students pursuing a career in this important and in-demand field, so if you are looking to land additional funding for college, be sure to check out these cybersecurity scholarships.​ ​​

As cyber crime and hacking increases so does the demand for cybersecurity professionals who are able to detect, analyze, and respond rapidly to threats to make sure information and data stays out of the wrong hands. Cybersecurity professionals can be found across many industries and at varying levels. From basic IT skills to advanced levels, cybersecurity specialists ensure the safety of computer networks and systems.

To meet the demands of this popular 21st-century field, college and universities are offering cybersecurity college scholarships and cybersecurity majors. Schools that don't offer specific cybersecurity majors may offer a similar degree path that can lead to a career in cybersecurity, including computer science, information science, information assurance and security, computer forensics, computer engineering and computer programming. Obtaining a four-degree in any of these or related fields can help qualify you for a career in cybersecurity. Becoming certified as a cybersecurity specialist can also increase your career opportunities and earning potential; some employers may require it.​
