CSEA, Chapter 535, Region F
Frequently Asked Questions
I heard that CSEA has joined forces with AFL–CIO and CLF is this true?
Yes, at CSEA's Annual Conference in 2001, delegates voted to become an independently chartered union of the AFL-CIO. Under the charter, CSEA retained its own constitution and bylaws, without outside control by the AFL–CIO. Members gained access to new discounts and benefits through the AFL–CIO's Union Plus program. More significantly, the independent charter gave CSEA members the power and clout that comes from combining CSEA's strength with that of more than 13 million other AFL-CIO members. Three years after joining the national AFL–CIO, CSEA joined the statewide California Labor Federation (CLF) in 2004. The CLF represents 2.1 million workers in more than 1,300 affiliated unions. CSEA's membership, in CLF gives classified employees a stronger voice on issues and legislation affecting California's working families.

Why does it show I'm a non–member, when they're taking dues out of my paycheck?
The confusion is probably the $36.75 that shows on your paycheck reflecting the California School Employee Association dues mandated by the state. This is not our Local Chapter #535 Membership fee. The CSEA Chapter #535 maintance fee is only $2.00 per month for ten months. To become a Chapter #535 member download the CSEA application - PDF and return to the RCC, CSEA treasurer.
What is the Victory Club and why are they taking money out of my paycheck for it?
The CSEA Victory Club raises money to help us pass local school bonds, increase education funding, elect better school board members and educate the public about important ballot measures.
Every Victory Club dollar is spent on election issues (not one dollar goes to CSEA overhead). $1.00 a month is what the average CSEA Victory Club member contributes to the Victory Club.
The levels of membership are: VIP: $6 or more per month, $75 or more per year. Sponsor: $3–$5.99/month or $40–$74.99 per year. Member: $1–2.99/month or $15–$39.99 per year.
