Extended Opportunity ProgramS and Services

Extended Opportunity Programs & Services (EOPS) is a student support program implemented and funded by the state of California (as per Title V) to help recruit, retain and assist the academic success of low-income and educationally disadvantaged students by providing them with the tools and resources for achieving a higher education.

EOPS Benefits

Once you have been accepted into the Riverside Community College District EOP/S Program, you will be eligible for a number of support services.

Academic Counseling Services: Personal, academic and career counseling is provided to you by certificated counselors. An EOPS counselor is available for EOPS students after the student is accepted into the program.

Registration Services: Priority registration is provided for EOP/S students in the fall and spring semesters. This service assists students with access to the classes needed to complete their educational plan.

Book Services: A supplemental book voucher is provided to EOPS Students who have met the requirements of the EOPS students responsibility contract and who are progressing academically. The book voucher amount varies depending on funding.

Tutorial Services: Specialized EOPS tutoring is available through the Tutorial Center. Tutors are ready to help in most academic subjects offered at Riverside Community College District. Sessions are held on campus on a one-to-one basis. The Tutorial Center also has self-tutorial software to help you study on your own.

Transfer Services: You will receive counseling and advisement that will help to ensure a successful transition to the four-year college or university of your choice. EOPS is also available to provide application fee waivers for the CSU or UC.

Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (C.A.R.E.)

C.A.R.E. provides additional assistance for eligible EOP/S students who are single parents receiving AFDC/TANF benefits to pursue a college education.

NeW EOPS Eligibility Requirements

To apply to the EOPS program, you must fit the following criteria:

• Be a California Resident
• Have Full-Time Status (Enrollment in 12.0 or more units in course work selected from the Student Educational Plan)
• Not have completed more than 45.0 Degree Applicable Units or an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree
• Qualify to receive Board of Governor's Waiver (BOGW "A" or "B" Enrollment Waiver through the Financial Services Office)
• Have an Educational Disadvantage (Determined by Assessment scores or previous academic history from college or high school course work)
• Comply with EOPS Contract Requirements (Completed with EOPS Application).
• Returning EOPS student must be in good standing in their previous semester.

How to Apply to EOPS

• Complete and submit the general college Application for Admission.
• Take the college Assessment Test.
• Obtain official transcripts for other college course work completed.
• See a general college counselor to develop a Student Educational Plan (SEP).
• Apply for Financial Aid and have that office determine if you qualify for a Board of Governors Waver (BOGW) "A" or "B".
• Request a special EOPS Application by contacting our EOPS staff at any campus or by calling (951) 222-8045
• Submit completed EOPS application with a copy of your Board of Governors Waver (BOGW) "A" or "B", Student Education Plan, Assessment Test scores, and official transcripts by the EOPS Application deadlines.

Application Deadlines:

Priority Deadline
To be eligible for all EOPS services and benefits including Priority Registration you must apply and be accepted to EOPS two months before the semester term of entrance.

Extended Deadlines
To be eligible for all EOPS services and benefits excluding Priority Registration you must apply and be accepted to EOPS one month before the semester term of entrance.
