How do I apply for a student loan at Riverside Community College??
Riverside Community College (RCC) participates in the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP), offering both subsidized and unsubsidized Stafford loans to our students. These loans enable students to postpone part of their educational expenses by borrowing directly from a participating lending institution. We want to make sure you understand, unlike grants and scholarships, a student loan must be repaid with interest and should be requested only after you have exhausted all other resources of financial assistance.
The Federal Student Loan Program has annual and lifetime aggregate borrowing limits for your undergraduate study. Borrowing too much too early in your education career can limit your borrowing when you transfer to or attend a 4 year institution. Therefore, RCCD does not recommend borrowing more than $10,000 at the Community College level. (This amount includes loan from other institutions attended and previous loans from RCCD).
WHAT YOU WILL NEED BEFORE REQUESTING A STUDENT LOAN FROM RCC
Once you have met all of the above requirements, you may request a Student Loan Packet from any SFS office. You loan will not be certified unless a completed packet is received by the SFS office.
Additional information regarding the Student Loan process at RCC can be found in our consumer guide on our website at www.rcc.edu/studentfinancialservices. Additional information regarding students loans can be located at www.edfund.org
