What is the BOG Waiver?
For eligible California residents, the California Community Colleges Board of Governors (BOG) Fee Waiver permits enrollment fees to be waived.  It does not provide assistance for the purchase of books or supplies.  Eligibility for additional financial aid is determined using the FAFSA or California Dream Application.

How Do I Apply?
Students can easily apply for the BOG Waiver by filing a FAFSA or California Dream Application.  Once received, students will receive an initial award letter notifying them of their eligibility.
Paper applications for BOG Waivers are also available, and can be retrieved by visiting the Student Financial Services office during normal business hours.  If applying with a paper application, please be sure to bring income documetation.

How Do I Maintain Eligibility?

Beginning with the Fall 2016 semester, students will be required to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).  Students will be required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or above, and complete 50 percent or more of their attempted units successfully.  SAP is determined after every semester (Fall and Spring).  *Please note that SAP for the BOG Waiver is different than SAP for federal and state aid programs, which can be found here.

What Happens if I Lose Eligibility?
Students who lose eligibility may be able to appeal for continued eligibility by meeting one of the following criteria, and must be able to document their situation:
  • Meet the definition of extenuating circumstances (must be able to document)
  • Students with disabilities who applied for but didn't receive accomodation in a timely manner
  • Students who can demonstrate significant academic improvement
  • Change in economic situation
  • Evidence that student was unable to obtain essential support services
  • Special consideration for CalWorks, EOPS, DSPS and Veteran students

How Do I Appeal?

Students meeting one of the above mentioned criteria would appeal by completing a BOG Waiver Appeal Form with Admissions and Records, OR Student Financial Services, ensuring that all supporting documentation is included.

Students will be notified via email within 24-48 hours of their approval or denial.  If approved, the BOG Waiver will be added to the student's financial aid package.
