Academics

The College, which has three campuses, enrolls approximately 32,000 people. Part of the California Community College system, RCC offers the first two years of a four-year education. Students are prepared to transfer to four-year universities for the final two years of study toward a Baccalaureate degree.
The Center for International Students provides assistance in selecting courses that will be accepted for transfer to California State University and University of California campuses, as well as to private colleges and universities throughout the United States.
More than 2,000 classes are offered each semester in more than 60 majors. In addition to courses that prepare for transfer, the College offers courses leading to the Associate degree, which is awarded after two years (or 60 units) of study. Courses in Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Pre-Engineering, English, and Office Administration are popular with international students. Certificate programs in many occupational fields are also available.
ACADEMIC TRANSFER PROGRAMS
The academic year at RCCD is divided into two 16-week sessions, with Fall semester beginning in September and Spring semester beginning in February. There are also short term sessions in Summer and Winter.
The majority of international students attending RCCD transfer to a four-year university for the last two years, leading to a Baccalaureate degree. To be eligible for transfer to the university as a junior, students must have completed at least 60 units of transferable credit from the community college. In most cases, students may transfer up to 70 semester units of credit from a community college.
International students who plan to transfer should see an academic counselor, on a regular basis, to determine the courses needed to prepare for transfer to a University of California (UC), California State University (CSU) or any private, independent university.
The Counselor in the international office will assist students in choosing courses which meet the requirements for the university they wish to attend. RCCD has agreements with University of California and California State University, making transfer to a university a smooth process. Requirements for transfer vary by major and by campus, and the Counselor will work with each student to reach his or her goal. For students who have not decided on university for transfer, the Counselor will work with them to meet the general lower division requirements until they select a particular university.
Students pursuing high unit majors such as Engineering, Computer Science, Physical or Life Sciences should see the advice of a Counselor prior to selecting general education coursework.
