Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What services does the Grants office provide?
A: Grant development assistance including resource development and analysis for District initiatives, grant management assistance via training and consultation, contract development, and technical assistance related to grants.
Q: What do I do if I want to apply for a grant?
A: Once a potential source of funding is identified and approval has been granted by the area administrator, individuals intending to seek grant funding should provide the Grants office and Campus President with a copy of the Request for Proposals (RFP). Approval by the Campus President ensures that the grant is in alignment with the scope, mission and strategic plan of the Campus.
Q: Will the Grants office prepare the grant application for me?
A: The Grants office can provide varying degrees of proposal development assistance based on the complexity of the proposal and the assistance requested. Although most proposals are written by those individuals who will be directing the projects, the Grants office needs to be involved in the development of the grant budget.
Q: When should I contact the Grants office?
A: As soon as you obtain the approval of your Campus President to submit a grant application.
Q: How much funding could I be awarded?
A: Some programs offer as little as a one-time-only $5,000 award while others offer upwards of $400,000 per year for as many as five years. The average award is approximately $200,000 per year for three years.
Q: What are my chances of winning?
A: The environment is very competitive at this time, but the Grants office can provide expert advice regarding what a proposal should include to improve the chances of award.
Q: I've just won a grant. What do I do now?
A: Contact Colleen Molko at extension 8932 for grants management training and resources.
