Centennial Plan
Work will soon begin on a district Centennial Plan, an effort that stems from the comprehensive strategic planning process initiated in 200(2). The impact of this process already is in evidence at the campuses where their strategic planning committees are nearing completion of academic and facilities master plans. As the RCCD Centennial Plan takes shape, it will achieve the following purposes:
- Tie together all planning initiatives
- Provide direction for future planning efforts
- Identify concrete, long-term District priorities
- Provide a means for evaluating our progress toward objectives and milestones
- Inform our discussions and consideration of new planning proposals
- Engage the communities we serve
Second, the Centennial Plan will comprise mission and goals analysis and alignment, internal and external environmental scanning, campus and college missions statements, core values and traditions, and current and future issues.
Finally, the Centennial Plan will examine several important issues:
- Diversity (What does the ethnic diversity of our students, faculty, staff, and the diversity in learning styles and levels of preparedness require?)
- Basic Skills & Assessment (How to we best serve students who come to us unprepared for college level work?)
- Transportation & Cost of Education (How can we remove roadblocks to education, e.g. commuting costs, textbook costs, fees?)
- Engagement (How can we ensure that RCCD educational facilities remain relevant and meaningful to our students and our communities)
- Healthcare (?)
- Disaster Resistance (How can we protect our students, faculty, staff and facilities in an effective, and cost-efficient manner?)
- Workforce Development (How can we provide education that both brings new, trained individuals into the workforce and retrains workers who are impacted by economic and technological changes in the workplace?)
- Critical Success Factors (What programs and services must be in place now and 10 years hence that help ensure our students success once they enter college?)
- Enrollment Management (How do we best make a higher education available to residents in one of California's fastest growing regions?)
Over the next several months you will hear more about the RCCD Millennium Plan--first through the public discussion about the campus academic and facilities master plans, and later through similar discussions about the districtwide strategic plan. I encourage you to attend and participate in these discussions, and let us know what you want and need from your community college.
