The education paraprofessional certificate program is a certificate program within the field of Education and required 32 to 34 units. The curriculum is designed to develop skills in Language Arts, Math, and the overall approach to education of children in California. In addition, the certificate followed by the AS degree create a career ladder for students who want to continue their education and step up to become credentialed K-12 teachers in California.
The AS degree meets the requirements of federal legislation's "No Child Left Behind" mandate that all paraprofessionals in Title I schools be "highly qualified." Students desiring a Bachelor's Degree and teaching credential should consult a counselor to discuss transferability of courses.
