The Dental Assistant program provides an excellent opportunity for students who are interested in having a steady career in the allied health field. Students participating in the dental assisting program have an opportunity to make history by enrolling in the dental assisting program's inaugural year. The program offers a highly comprehensive curriculum dealing with many aspects of dental assisting including assisting in surgery, orthodontics, and restorative dentistry. The program also covers issues dealing with infection control for dental assistants as well as an introduction to radiology. The program of study offers introductory and intermediate levels of supervised externships to help facilitate a hands-on learning enviornment. The detal assisting program is a flexible program that offers a full-time track that can be completed in one year and a part-time track that can be completed in two years. Upon completion of the program, students will be awarded a certificate of completion. The department recommends that students finish the required units to obtain an Associate in Science degree.
