Mel Moncrieff graduated from Loma Linda University School of Nursing in 1979 with an Associate’s degree and from Cal State San Bernardino in 1993 with a BSN. He earned his Master’s Degree in Nursing from UCLA in 2001 with Nurse Practitioner Certifications in Gerontology and Neuropsychiatry. He has worked as a med-surg nurse and a psychiatric nurse for over 20 years in many settings including Patton State Hospital, Arrowhead Behavioral Health and the Jerry L. Pettis VA, and continues to work part time on the inpatient psych unit at the VA. He also works as an educatorand facilitator for the Board of Registered Nursing Diversion program, assisting nurses with substance abuse and mental health issues to return to successful practice. He has taught nursing in the VN and ADN programs full-time for the last 3 years at Chaffey College.
A research study that he participated in while at UCLA on the impact of managed care on substance abuse treatment was recently accepted for publication in the Journal of Addictions Nursing and will appear in the November issue.
