Gloria Leifer graduated from Fordham School of Nursing in 1955, obtained a BS in Nursing Education from Hunter College and an MA in Maternity and Pediatric Nursing Education from Columbia University in New York in 1962 where she also completed some Doctoral study.
Ms. Leifer worked in Nursing Administration, trauma, and Maternity Nursing and has specialized in Pediatric and Obstetric Nursing education for the past 40 years. She taught at Fordham School of Nursing; Hunter College of the City University of New York; California State University at Los Angeles and spent several years as a consultant to third world countries before coming to RCC, where she has taught Pediatrics in the A.D.N and pediatrics and obstetrics in the VN program since 1990. Ms. Leifer is a consultant to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing as an NCLEX item writer and has published 4 textbooks: Leifer,G. “Maternity Nursing” (2008); Leifer,G. “Introduction to Maternity and Pediatric Nursing” (2007), W.B.Saunders Publisher; and Leifer,G. “Principles and Techniques in Pediatric Nursing”, WB Saunders Co. (1985) A fourth textbook,concerns growth and development, Leifer, G. and Hartston, H. “Growth and Development Across the Lifespan: A Health Promotion Focus”-Elsevier (International Thompson-Mosby publishers) in 2003. Her texts have been published internationally. She was the Editor of the Nursing Clinics of North America and has published several articles for RN and AJN nursing journals, including a CEU article concerning hyperbaric oxygen therapy in the August 2001 issue of the American Journal of Nursing.
Ms. Leifer is a Ham Radio operator (WA2OZO) and is active in earthquake preparedness in the Southern California region.
